Meet Aussie Actress & HASK Fan, Luca Sardelis
Best known for her role as Zoe Hunt-Laskaris in the award-winning SBS drama series The Hunting, Australian actress Luca Sardelis is a vibrant young actor with big things on the horizon. Read on to get to know Luca and hear about her experiences with life on-set and all things curly hair.
Meet Luca
Having fallen in love with acting since her first role at the age of 11, Luca has appeared in a successful run of TV projects, from Nowhere Boys to Barracuda. More recently, Luca has appeared alongside top US and Aussie stars in Netflix original film A Perfect Pairing, and she is currently at work shooting upcoming 2023 films Love, Tea and Epiphany, Ruby Ruby, and The Devil’s Work.
Born in Adelaide, Luca credits her family with her interest in acting and creative arts. “I’m one small member of a big fat Greek and Cypriot family. Whilst no one else in my extended family has the same interest in film acting that I do, we are all social creatures and creative thinkers. They have been the largest source of inspiration and motivation a girl could ask for.”
Let’s talk curly hair and on-set styling
Working as a full-time actress, Luca describes some of the biggest styling challenges on-set as “Keeping my curls looking fresh and ready for styling every single day. And keeping my skin consistent. Because we often film out of script order, you want your skin to look the same every day, but breakouts can be hard to control when you’re wearing makeup every day.”
When it comes to keeping her hair healthy across months of on-set styling, Luca shares that with her curly hair washing to prevent product build-up, and regularly using hair treatments is key. “My curls are always dry. When they get particularly dry, a deep conditioning hair mask is always there to play my saviour. I’ll apply it at the start of my shower and lightly rinse it out just before I get out. I recently used the HASK Argan Oil Repairing Deep Conditioner mask for the first time and loved it. It’s such a nice, heavy, and rich formula.”
One tricky impact of regular on-set hair styling, particularly for curly hair types, is the damage that can be caused by regular application of heat tools and heat styling. When it comes to using any kind of heat use, Luca knows that it is so essential to ensure that her hair is properly protected. “I LOAD my hair up with all of the heat protectant HASK Keratin Protein Leave-in Spray prior to straightening to coat my hair and put a barrier between it and the heat of my straightener. The HASK Keratin Protein Hair Oil vial has been a friend to me. I love adding it to my hair—damp or dry—particularly if I intend on straightening my hair.”
And caring for her curls afterward is just as important: “My hair tends to stay straight until I wash it. When I do, to return to my curls, I tend to wash them twice and focus doubly on loading all of the moisturising products back into my hair, with extra emphasis on my ends. I use the HASK Argan Oil Repairing Oil for this task.”
Looking to the future, Luca is most excited about: “Meeting lots of amazing creatives and working together to create stories together that we love. It sounds so cliché but it’s true.”
