How to Choose a Haircut That Complements Your Features
Bespoke haircuts are trending! Made just to suit you, your face, and your style, if you’ve been thinking about getting a bespoke haircut, this is your sign that you should do it. Here’s our fail-safe guide for choosing a haircut that truly complements your features.
Your face shape and features have a big impact on how certain haircuts will look on you. Choosing a haircut that will suit your features can have a big impact and immediately add a ‘wow’ factor to your look.
Oval
If your features form an oval-shape, you have no prominent angles and have a gently rounded face that is only slightly narrower at the chin than at the forehead.
Often referred to as the most ‘versatile’ face shape, oval shapes can get away with a few different looks—which all emphasise volume rather than length. Short, above-the-shoulder cuts with subtle layers and face-framing are ideal for you.
Long
Long face shapes are generally quite similar to that of oval, but longer! If you have a long face shape, its length will be noticeably longer than its width, creating an elongated look.
A really flattering look for long face shapes is curly, voluminous hair. Add layering and volume to your hairstyle (and avoid long, straight styles), as this will accentuate your width rather than length, and open your face up more.
Square
Those with square-shaped faces often feature a strong, prominent jawline and a wide face. The forehead, cheekbones, and jawline line up with close-to equally opposite corners that form a square.
There are two ways you can go—enhance or soften your prominent features. An enhancing look is a really short haircut that lines up to the jawline—such as strong bangs or a clean-cut bob. If you’d rather soften your square features, opt for straight, long hair, with long layers that start near the end of the hair, to create an elongated look.
Round
Also known as ‘baby-face’, if you have a round face, you have no sharp angles and features that are close to equal in width and length. Your round face-shape is circular and likely makes you look youthful.
Bold haircuts with texture and angles look great on those with round faces, adding more angles to your look. If you’d like to elongate your features, try edgy lengthening styles, like a slicked ponytail, a textured lob, or a pixie cut with volume.
Heart
Heart-shaped faces are wide at the forehead, with prominent cheekbones, a narrow, pointed chin, and sometimes, a widow’s peak hairline.
Heart-shaped faces can either accentuate or balance out their features. To accentuate, go for a slicked-back hairstyle or a look with lots of volume on top. To more balance your features, try a lob that ends at your jawline, or, for long hair, add in layers that break at the jawline, to make your chin appear wider.
Diamond
Diamond-shaped faces feature wide, prominent cheekbones, with a forehead and jaw that are similar in width. If you have a diamond face, your features likely appear symmetrical and balanced.
You’ll want to go for a hairstyle that accentuates your overall face shape. Try side-swept bangs that will highlight your cheekbones or a textured lob to accentuate your overall face. Avoid heavy or straight-across bangs as these will cause your face to appear shorter than it is.
