Luca Sardelis Talks Styling, Loving and Embracing Curly Hair
December 21, 2022
Are you learning to style, care for and embrace your naturally curly hair? You’ve come to the right place! As a natural curly, Luca Sardelis shares how she styles her hair using the HASK Curl Care Collection.
When it comes to curls, waves, and coils, Luca finds that the recipe for achieving gorgeous curly hair is part styling, part curl-specific haircare, and part embracing your texture for its natural beauty.
A ‘lazy guide’ to styling curly hair
When it comes to caring for her curls, Luca shares that often she finds more is less! “My top tip is to not do too much. Don’t wash it when it doesn’t need to be washed and don’t add product when it doesn’t need it either. Life is about balance, right?”
Follow her simple step-by-step guide for styling cute curly hair and maintaining its healthy condition: “I shampoo my hair once or twice a week with a curl-specific moisturising shampoo. After I rinse this out, I generously condition and brush through my hair in the shower, leaving traces of the conditioner in my ends.”
“Next, I’ll pat out the excess water with a towel and apply a hydrating mousse evenly throughout my hair by separating it into sections. If I’m in the mood for self-care, I’ll scrunch a cheeky curl cream and maybe some enriching hair oil into my ends. I might even twist some curls with my finger to ensure extra definition when my hair dries, if I’m feeling wild.”
Embrace your natural curl type and texture
Luca shares that her absolute favourite thing about having curly hair is, undoubtedly: “The fellowship of the curly hair community. When you’re out in public rocking the curls and come across someone else who is owning it, there’s this look of acknowledgment and instant bond that connects you.”
“I think Western beauty standards have historically done curly hair dirty. Curls are something we have been taught to ‘control’ or ‘tame’, as if hair can be disobedient or disorderly, and I know my parents’ generation have feared the word ‘volume’ since the ‘80s.”
“But honestly, curly hair is such a gift. It contains so much versatility. It’s artistic and architectural with its individual patterns and coils specific to you. If you’ve just started wearing your hair curly, congratulations, that’s so cool. I hope you feel as powerful and beautiful as you are.”
